A Mini Review on Imidazole Derivatives: Their Chemistry Properties and Diverse Pharmacological Activities
Imidazole is a five-member heterocyclic compound containing 2 nitrogen atoms in the ring and present at 1st and 3rd positions. The imidazole ring is a constituent of various important natural substances, like purine, nucleic acid, histamine and histidine. Imidazole derivatives have important place in medicinal chemistry and presence of the imidazole nucleus is an important strategy in drug discovery and development. Imidazole derivatives are having diverse pharmacological activities such as antihelmintics, antimicrobial, anticancer, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and other useful activities. Imidazoles have diverse chemistry with varying physical and chemical properties which may be exploited via forming various derivatives having varying pharmacological actions.
