Digital Library Services and Applications: NIFTEM Knowledge Center: A Case Study

Abstract


Different Institutions/ Universities’ libraries have different roles and functions with their organizational objectives. Accordingly, their collection/ resources are also differs to meet their user’s needs. It is well known that whatever collections and infrastructure in the libraries is like a dead horse unless its utilization in a more systematic and scientific way with the implementation of modern tools and technologies. Here, NIFTEM Knowledge Centre (Library) is a unique centre in case of specialized collection on food processing sectors, implantation of latest IT infrastructure and vibrant services. Nevertheless, the project undertaken by NIFTEM knowledge Centre (NKC) on ‘Food Processing Information Portal’ is a distinctive platform which would not only helps to farmers avoiding middleman concept but also to various stakeholders. An attempt has been made in this article that how NKC stand up within three years span of time and provides right information to right users at right time by implementing latest tools and technologies like information kiosk, web OPAC, Turunitin plagiarism check, remote access facility.
